The article presents a study, which finds the ability of a metal-filled glass ionomer Ketac-Silver and a cast post and core to resist displacement and fracture under conditions designed to imitate occlusal loading. For the study, thirty freshly extracted single-rooted, single-canal mandibular premolars were selected on the basis of root length and uniformity in shape. The anatomic crown of each tooth was removed with the use of a water-cooled diamond instrument in a high speed handpiece. In each case, the angle of cut was perpendicular to the tooth's long axis and 1 mm occlusal to the cementoenamel junction. |
