The article discusses an experiment to evaluate the marginal microleakage of two composite resin materials, and an experimental urethane based material in cavity walls located above and below the cementoenamel junction. For the experiment, 40 class V cavities were prepared for the sound teeth which were examined for decalcification, carries and restorations. These were then cleaned with flour of pumice and assigned to four groups for etching, bonding, and restoration. These were then filled with restorative materials until the final contour was achieved. To prevent dye penetration, the teeth were sealed with nail varnish. The experiment concluded that the four combinations of restorative materials show considerable differences in degree of dye penetration at the gingival walls. |
