Abstrakt: Abraham Lincoln, born 1809, died 1865, was the 16th President of the United States. Leading the US through the civil war and the reconstruction and reunion that followed, he is rightly regarded as one of America's greatest presidents. However, he also provides a fascinating medical mystery, as anyone who has seen his heavy browed gaze will attest. Despite suffering from a number of ailments including frostbitten feet, malaria and smallpox he may also have had syphilis. It is his stature, standing 1.95 metres that has promoted the argument that he suffered Marfan's syndrome. More recent investigation has proposed that he in fact was a sufferer of Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia. Despite his longevity, his death shortened by an assasin's bullet, he exhibits a number of signs of the disease. This presentation will examine the pathology surrounding this great man, in the era of DNA analysis and ask would America have elected him today? [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
