Presents a report on plasminogen and its identification as a PrP[supSc]-binding protein. How transmissible spongiform encephalopathies are associated with accumulation of PrP[supSc], a confomer of a cellular protein called PrP[supC]; Focus on activities in human and mouse blood which which bind PrP[supSc] and prion infectivity; Conclusion that plasminogen represents the first engogenous factor discriminating between normal and pathological prion protein. |
