The article offers information on the Illinois's anti-Strategic Lawsuit Against Public Participation (SLAPP) protection into law, known as Citizen Participation Act (CPA). The act declares that the constitutional rights of citizens and organizations to be involved and participate freely in the process of government must be encouraged and safeguarded with great diligence. It also provides the key provisions of the CPA, which include the definitions of government that consists of electorate and a person to be defined as corporations, organizations, and associations, thereby suggesting that media defendants can take advantage of the CPA. Information on cases including Shoreline Towers Condominium Association v. Gassman, Scheidler v. Trombley is presented. |
