The article evaluates treatment options for equine tendon, ligament and joint disease. The array of choices are mentioned along with factors that influence treatment choices and the importance of rest in a successful tendon or ligament-treatment program. Extracorporeal Shock Wave Therapy (ESWT) is discussed together with the concept of tissue engineering. The use of stem cells for tendon and ligament repair is provided including the growth factors in platelets. Interleukin receptor antagonist protein (IRAP) is presented as well as the effects of tildren. |
