Data from the weather radars located in southern Brazil has been used by the CPTEC and DECEA since 2004. The quality of the data was not evaluated yet, and for applications like nowcasting, data assimilation and rainfall estimation it is necessary to guarantee that the data are good enough to be used. Therefore, the main goal of this assignment was to evaluate the quality of the data produced by the radar network using the information acquired by the TRMM-PR (Tropical Rainfall Measurement Mission—Precipitation Radar) as reference. The results showed that in most cases the ground radars tend to slightly overestimate reflectivity values when compared with PR. It was also showed that a particular radar requires attention due to its large offset and noises present in its products (about 6 dBZ). [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
