The article discusses the case of a healthy 11-year-old girl who has had an asymptomatic, slowly progressive eruption that started around her mouth three years ago. The condition is diagnosed as periorificial dermatitis (PD), which affects young women most commonly as well as children. A causitive factor in many patients is the chronic use of topical steroids for minor facial dermatoses. Treatments include metrinidazole, erythromycin, mupirocin and sulfacetamide. Other effect treatments include oral antibiotics including tetracycline derivatives. |
