Abstrakt: The article focuses on the shirtwaist dress trend embraced by a number of American household women or wife during the 1950s in the U.S. The shirtwaist dress, accordingly, reflects the period's idea of conformity and domesticity. The lifestyle magazine "Good Housekeeping," has been considered to be an instrumental to make the shirtwaist trend become the most popular in the 1950s. It is claimed that through "Good Housekeeping," the trend has permanently became a representation of idealized motherhood and domesticity.
