The article discusses oral biology form a historical perspective. The authors note that, due to the rapid development of science, the curriculum for a scientific education has largely abandoned the history of various disciplines. They hope to provide insight on the history of medicine and dentistry through a series of articles. They examine how dentistry split from medicine in the 19th century as the demand for dental treatment blossomed. The split between dentistry and medicine then led to the development of oral biology. They explore how various biomedical disciplines have developed and become important parts of health care. |
