Abstrakt: This article discusses the results of a research study conducted to determine the chondroprotective mechanisms of tetracyclines. Chondrocyte and cartilage organ culture models were constructed from bovine nasal septum to test these abilities. The researchers find tetracyclines to be ineffective in blocking the expression and activity of matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs), including collagenases, gelatinases, and stromelysin. They also find that tetracyclines do not inhibit general gene transcription.
