Abstrakt: The article presents research into experiments involving active and passive immunity to Streptococcus mutans (S mutans) and its relation to dental caries in malnourished rats. Researchers look to determine whether specific immunity to dental caries can be effected in conditions of protein malnutrition and evaluate the nature of immune response to S mutans in a nutritionally compromised host. Results suggest that anti-S mutans antibody of the immunoglobulin G class are passively transferred from female rats to their offspring via their milk and that this antibody is important in protection against S mutans infection.
