Abstrakt: The article presents research into the purification, characterization, and immunogenicity of cell-associated glucan from Streptococcus mutans (S mutans) associated with dental caries in rats. Particular attention is paid to the antigens glucosyltransferases and gulcans that may reduce the establishment of S mutans in the oral cavity. Researchers look to purify insoluble glucans from S mutans strain 6715 cells, develop an assay to measure serum and salivary antibodies, and study the salivary immunogloblulin A (IgA) response in monkeys. Results revealed that immunization with whole cell vaccines of S mutans appeared to induce antibodies that inhibit S mutans implantation on tooth surfaces and associated dental caries.
