This article reports on calcification in Streptococci. The article discusses a study that examined oral streptococci for evidence of synthetic calcification with non-calcifiable Streptococcus (S) salivarius used as a control. The tests examined strains including S. mitis, S. faecalic, and S. bovis through x-ray diffraction and electron microscopy. The article also presents information on intracellular minerals, membrane structures, cytoplasm clusters, and the formation of mineralized dental accretions. |
