The energized membrane has been shown to affect properties (sugar transport, acid production, intracellular polysaccharide formation, and glycosyltransferase secretion) related to the pathogenicity of oral bacteria. The activity of the energized membrane was susceptible to modulation by environmental conditions likely to be encountered by bacteria in dental plaque. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
