Abstrakt: The article reports on the results of research conducted in an effort to determine the impact the deletion of bivalent trace metals had on the growth and glycolytic activity of oral acidogenic microorganisms. Researchers found that the conversion of carbohydrates to acid residues by mixed oral acidogenic microorganisms in saliva and in bacteriologic media is inhibited by the presence of certain chelating compounds and that the inhibition results from the removal of manganese by the compounds.
