The article presents a synopsis of chromosome number variation in the cyperaceae, a cosmopolitan family of close to 5400 spices in 103 genera currently recognized. They have a large amount of chromosome number variation, both within and among the genera. The family mentioned has 4231 reported chromosome counts. However, only 16% of these counts are recognized. The article presents these counts in an indexed list with a standardized nomenclature. The article also explores genera with significant number of counts. There is evidence for both agmatoploid and polyploid chromosome number changes, given the count distribution within genera. |
