The article reports the prevalence of opioid misuse in the U.S. The prescription drug abuse is linked to increase availability of pain medications. Record shows that about 5.2 million people ages 12 and older were nonmedical users of prescription pain relievers in 2006. It mentions that the use of opioid for pain is well-accepted for cancer pains but has potentials for misuse and must be controlled. It notes that the greatest factor for the prevalence is the increased environmental exposure. |
