Abstrakt: The article presents a research study which examined the association of the C677T methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase (MTHFR) polymorphism with lumbar spine and hip bone mass density (BMD) in children. Researchers found that high maternal dietary intakes of vitamin B6 and folate during pregnancy attenuated the association between MTHFR genotype and spine BMD in girls. The findings suggest that homocysteine is an important regulator of spinal BMD in childhood.
