Abstrakt: The article focuses on the British Army's reaction to the telephone before 1914. The British society's attitudes to the telephone and how they influenced the army's view of this method of communication, the army's reasons for dismissing the telephone, and the British Army's attitude towards the telephone in comparison and contrast with that of the German Army are discussed. The experiences of both armies during the opening months of the war are also analysed.
