The article presents a study on the use of environmental isotopes in surface water-groundwater relationships in relation to sustainability of hydro-projects in India. The study shows that the springs found downstream of the Nagewadi project came from the Kanhirapuzha reservoir. The change in the upstream groundwater flow direction under the reservoir filling conditions causes the water-logging problem at a downstream village. Meanwhile, the springs in the Ghatghar Project originated from the lower reservoir. |
