Abstrakt: The article discusses the study which examines the urinary levels of nitrite and nitrotyrosine (NT) in the Yusho victims after accidental poisoning with polychlorinated biphenyls (PCB) in Nagasaki-shi, Japan in 1968. After 40 years of accidental poisoning with PCB, high concentrations of PCB are still detected in the serum of the victims. The study shows positive correlation between the ratio of urinary NT to nitrite and serum PCB concentration in the victims. It concludes that the emergence of some ailments including pigmentation of the skin, hypermia, and vomiting were caused by high levels of urinary nitrite and NT in the Yusho victims.
