The article proposes that religious education begin with the central realities of the created world; religious education in the twenty-first century must be shaped and founded on an ecological basis. After an overview of resources from scripture and the Christian tradition that can help construct an eco-theology, the essay examines the approaches of current theologians. The adequacy of these approaches is then examined. Finally, the essay moves to apply these approaches to religious education, noting the absence of ecological insights in the recent literature.
