The article summarises the British Department of Health guidelines for prescribing intravenous immunoglobulin. Systematic review of evidence based guidelines and Cochrane reviews were used for the recommendations. Gaining acceptance and changing established prescribing patterns are cited as challenges. A list of conditions for which the treatment priority is low is presented including those which are categorized in immunology, haematology, neurology, and dermatology. A list of indications by specialty for which immunoglobulin is not recommended is also presented. |
