Abstrakt: The article explores the depiction of a decadent and tranquil Spain in Santiago Rusiñol's paintings of "Gardens of Spain." According to the Catalan artist's friend José Francés, Rusiñol was a landscapist who painted in a soft voice. It is noted that the artist's garden landscapes are a stage where time and nature have been momentarily arrested in the act of withering, consuming or transforming human intervention. The article also examines the socio-political significance of the artist's interest in the passage of time.
