Abstrakt: The article deals with treatment strategies for antibody-mediated diseases with particular focus on targeting plasma cells. It outlines various mechanisms of autoantibodies which may result to disease, including direct damage of cells by the antibodies binding to surface structures and modulation of cellular function by antibodies against cell surface receptors. It cites that a study found that long-lived plasma cells are a source of antibody memory. It notes the efficiency of the drug bortezomib in selectively eliminating plasma cells in mice models.
