Abstrakt: The article discusses the environmental effect of the burning of the Cuyahoga River in Cleveland, Ohio in the year 1969. The author argues that the burning of the river starts the deindustrialization of Cleveland and the U.S. as well. Moreover, when the tenth fire of the Cuyahoga River happened, the industrial activities near the river, including docks, railroads and refineries, declines. Aside from the industrial impact, the 1969 mayor of Cuyahoga, Carl B. Strokes, also discusses how the river endangers the ecology of the Lake Erie. Consequently, fifteen years after the 1969 fire, the author says that the river has recovered both in the industrial and environmental aspects.
