The article describes what appears to be a Romano-Egyptian dress of the first century B.C. found during an excavation at the fortified city of Qasr Ibrîm in Egypt. The garment is described as a simple dress made of a single length of linen tabby, both yarns very lightly spun and spliced. It is suggested that the style of the garment is not Roman and is labeled "Bought in Egypt." Rosalind Hall described the garment as the bag-tunic of Pharaonic Egypt, an inverted bag of linen-sheeting formed by a long rectangle folded over and stitched up the sides. |
