Abstrakt:	The article presents an interim assessment of the search into the financial needs of the cotton industry during the Industrial Revolution. The cotton industry needs an efficient means of making and receiving payments. The fact that imports of raw cotton and the exports of manufactured goods rose at a faster rate than the industry's fixed capital costs would make this the main financial need of the industry. An efficient remittance system was a critical function of rapid industrialization and one that made way to the development of country banking throughout the manufacturing districts.
