Abstrakt: The article focuses on the "Discover America" celebration planned for the Great American Quilt Festival 3 at Pier 92 in New York City on May 1 to 5, 1991. It states that the "Discover America" theme emerged from one open forum on what the Museum of American Folk Art's direction would be for the next contest held in connection with the Great American Quilt Festival. Although originally planned around the approaching 500th anniversary of Christopher Columbus's arrival to America, the entire premise of "discovery" eventually expanded far beyond the potential such a theme could have. The "Discover America" exhibition, which is the cornerstone exhibit of the Festival, sponsored by Fairfield and Springmaid, will be the biggest single show of quilts on the Pier.
