Abstrakt: A report of a questionnaire study involving secondary teachers who were members of either NEA or AFT. Using the hypothesis that perceived status inconsistency (in terms of income and prestige) predisposed teachers to militant behavior, the researcher predicted differences in status consistency between NEA and AFT members. Also posited as explanatory variables are political orientation and powerlessness feelings.
