The article presents research by Dr. Liduin Meershoek at the Utrecht University in the Netherlands on equine motion. It used a force-plate testing and kinematic data to assess the use of heel wedges following induced superficial digital flexor (SDF) tendonitis. The forces in the SDF increased in the affected and compensatory limb following application of heel wedges to both limbs. The lack of decreases of SDF in either limb proved that heel wedges may worsen the existing lesion. |
