The article documents the architectural monuments in Vologda, Russia through photographs. The Cathedral of Saint Sophia is an example of mid-sixteenth-century church architecture based on Aristotle Fiovaranti's Dormition Cathedral in Moscow Kremlin. The Archbishop's Chambers demonstrates the incursion of secular palace design into religious institutions in the eighteenth century. The Church of the Purification combines the elements of traditional seventeenth-century design reflecting the early baroque aesthetic Russia. |
