Abstrakt: In this article the author examines the intelligence tactic of employing commercial businesses as fronts to conceal espionage activities. He cites a number of such instances occurring in ancient history and as recorded in the Bible. Also discussed are a number of factors including the use of itinerant traders as spies, the espionage element of the American Revolution and British military intelligence of the 18th century.
