The article discusses the physiological functions of vesicular monoamine transporter (VMAT) and the therapeutic applications of its inhibitors. The role of VMAT in the transmission of monoamine neurotransmitters molecules and in the signaling process between monoamine neurons is discussed. The potential use of VMAT inhibitors as medications for hypertension, psychosis and chorea is evaluated. |
