The article presents an overview of investigations, including blood analysis which examines glucose and liver function, which physicians should conduct on patients who present with abdominal pain in an effort to decide whether the patient has pancreatic cancer. A discussion of a variety of diseases, including gallstone disease and colon cancer, which can present like pancreatic cancer and have symptoms of abdominal pain, is presented. The case of a 76 year old woman who presented to doctors with epigastric discomfort and back pain and was screened for pancreatic cancer is discussed. |
