Abstrakt: This qualitative study uses visual narrative to examine the emerging Singapore Secondary School Art Style in context and unravel a nexus of sociocultural ramifications that secure the education of this hybrid art style. Research findings focus on the growing influences of applied art by analyzing and interpreting exemplary artworks from several student art competitions and exhibitions to demonstrate how function-based applied art has impacted the art style propagated in Singapore schools. Discussion revolves around contesting ideologies that affect the prescribed curriculum, practice, and pedagogy. Data representation and analysis in the form of digital photocollage-cum-photoessay attempt to expand the possibilities of art education research practice. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
