The article describes the feline interferon (IFN)-γ ELISPOT test that provides a rapid result that can detect exposure to Mycobacterium bovis in cats. The test is based on the stimulation of IFN--γproducing memory T lymphocytes within peripheral blood mononuclear cells. The results reveal that the assay may be suitable for generating reliable and rapid information on the tuberculosis status of cats and could provide the first cell-based diagnostic test for feline tuberculosis. |
