The article discusses several pitfalls witnessed in Bioinformatics patent applications. It is stated that although patents offer the greatest assistance in protecting most forms of IP associated with bioinformatics, the number of patents issued in the relevant subclasses is relatively low, and downward trends for bioinformatics-related patents have been witnessed. The article further discusses the causes and solutions for several pitfalls including nonstatutory subject matter and indefiniteness. |
