Abstrakt: The article presents the author's literary composition titled "Who Says Black Boys Won't Read," presented at the master class of the Children's Literature Assembly (CLA) that took place at the National Council of Teachers of English conference in November 2007 in New York City. The composition reflects on the place of African-American boys and girls in the world of young adult literature. She notes that practically they are invisible and missing in action from the written world; the main reason it is difficult to get them engaged in reading. One solution, she suggests, is to give them stories about people who look like them, who behave as they do.
