Abstrakt: This article examines the principal theories of region building with a particular focus on security communities. Particular focus is given to theories concerning regional security communities. It presents information on the influence of external pressures in region building, prospects for regional and state cooperation, and the political instability of the wider Black Sea region. Also included are reasons for a regional security approach and the role of the European Union (EU) in promoting regional cooperation in the region.
