Abstrakt: This essay presents the writing practices that pose particular challenges for Oulipo translators by focusing on the work of two Oulipian writers, namely, Georges Perec and Harry Matthews. It cites the translation strategies outlined in the "Oulipo Compendium" which the two Oulipians employ to deal with semantic and formal constraints that are characteristic of literary text translation. According to the author, an analysis of the Oulipian writers' works may serve to illuminate the theory and practice of translation and justify the Oulipo project.
