Advanced backcross QTL analysis was used to identify quantitative traits loci (QTLs) for grain-related traits in a BC2F5 population derived from a cross between IR64 and Tarom molaei in Iran. The parental survey was done by 235 SSR markers in agarose and polyacrylamide gels, through them 114 markers with clear polymorphic bands were employed to genotype 59 advanced backcross lines. The traits under study included: grain length (GL), grain width (GW), grain shape, GS), and 100-grain weight (HGW). Using multiple interval mapping, a total of 21 putative QTLs were detected, of which 6 were for GL, 4 for GW, 3 for GS, and 8 for HGW. The epistatic effects observed only for GL and GW, each with one additibe by additive QTL. Because of mapping more than one QTL for most traits, it is concluded that these traits are polygenic.
