This presentation will describe an educational initiative that employs methods from critical pedagogy with Israeli-Palestinian students in their first year of teacher training. The students embarked on a personal journey in search of their roots and the life story of their families. Analyses were conducted by the students on family and personal narratives in order to incorporate life stories into teacher training which would impact the personal and professional development of young student teachers. The results of the study draw a self-evident conclusion that in order to aspire to education for peace, in an area of an intractable ethno-political conflict, there must be a preceding stage that is the search for the personal and collective narratives. The Palestinian narrative seems to be missing from the consciousness of many young Palestinians who are citizens of Israel. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
