The article discusses teachers' perceptions of the "Open Court" (OC) reading curriculum published by McGraw Hill. The authors focus on the effectiveness of "Open Court" for both English proficient students and students learning English as a second language (ELL). The authors also discuss the history of the OC program in California schools, focusing on changing education standards that have impacted the program. The authors also profiles teacher criticisms of OC that include a lack of student interaction and presuppositions of background knowledge that ELL students did not possess. |
