A chapter from the book "Rebellion in Southern Thailand: Contending Histories" is presented. It discusses the Duson Nyior Rebellion. As disturbances continued to escalate in the Muslim south during in late 1947, re-installed Patani governor Phraya Rattanapakdi orchestrated the arrest of Haji Sulong, which offended the sensibilities of the Malay Muslims and marked the trend of violent clashes with police in the region. The 1948 rebellion was a culmination of conflicts and problems in the region at the time, and not an isolated incident staged by Sulong. |
