Abstrakt: The article presents a family-based association study about genes related to lithium mechanism of action and other positional and functional candidate genes in bipolar disorder. A gene-based test of association was used to examine a set of haplotype-tagging single-nucleotide polymorphisms in 379 parent-affected offspring trios. Results of the study show that polymorphisms in major lithium-signaling genes do not seem to contribute to bipolar liability and that further study is necessary for novel candidates and genes previously associated with schizophrenia.
