The article focuses on the response of Saami Council and the Saami Parliaments in Finland, Norway and Sweden on the declaration adopted by the United Nations outlining the rights of indigenous people. It was mentioned that the Saami Council and Parliaments welcome the declaration and discusses the right of Saami people on economic, social and cultural development. The right of indigenous people to own and control territories and natural resources is discussed and comment from Saami Council Executive Secretary Outi Maria Paadar about the declaration are also presented. |
