The article discusses the portfolio management problems faced by individual investors in the U.S. and strategies to address them. It states that the management of institutional portfolios involves allocation to major asset classes and hiring of managers to divide the portfolio. It cites the differences between individual and institutional portfolio management due to taxes. It suggests the determination of the sources, scale and timing of the individual's wealth and of claims on that wealth to better address the problems. |
