The article discusses the effect of the result of the 1987 election to the West German party system. It argues that the merging of votes of the Greens reflects that the two-and-two-halves party system is better than the two-and-a-half party system. It mentions that the decline of the CDU/CSU and SPD shows the decline in the electoral impact of class and religion and that it presents difficulty on the part of the major parties yet beneficial for the government. Figures showing the Federal election's results for the year 1987 and 1983 are also provided. |
